New Orleans-based DUKES of Dixieland ® is pleased to announce the release of Celebrating Satchmo Presented by the Leisure Music Group, the CD-video set was produced for PBS and is expected to air later this year.
After the success of its recent Super Bowl @ Mardi Gras 2013 and 30th appearance at French Quarter Festival this past weekend, the DUKES will appear at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Saturday, May 4, at 2:00 pm at the Economy Hall Stage. The DUKES will celebrate 40 years in 2014, and claim the spot as the oldest continuously operating jazz band in New Orleans.
Featuring Louis Armstrong favorites such as Mack the Knife, What a Wonderful World, Struttin’ With Some Barbecue and You Rascal You, Celebrating Satchmo is a tribute to the influence the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner trumpeter had on the music of New Orleans, where he was born in 1901.
According to John Shoup, CEO of the Leisure Music Group, “New Orleans is the perfect place to celebrate Satchmo. From his music to the Summer Satchmo Fest held each August, it is only fitting that the DUKES, the oldest continuously playing jazz band in the area, pay special tribute to Louis Armstrong, the city’s most revered musician.”
